Welcome to Telluride Elementary School

June, 2019

Dear TES Friends and Families,

Summer is here!!  The sun is shining and the kids are out and about enjoying the warm weather after a long winter.  Despite the record breaking snowfall, our students and staff were super busy in the classroom!  Here are some highlights from the year -

Our staff began the year with an AVID training provided by 3 of our Telluride Elementary AVID Site Team members – Amy VanDerBosch, Jennifer Taylor and Molly Overly.  AVID is a district-wide initiative that stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.  The training focused on WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) strategies which are the core teaching strategies that are implemented in the classroom.

Film Fest

In September, Telluride Film Festival brought the film Coco to the Galaxy Theater (housed in the TES gymnasium) for all our elementary students to enjoy.  Not only did our students LOVE the film, but the culturally relevant material was an added bonus!

Peace Corner

In Ms. Kohari’s room (as in every classroom in the building), you find a Peace Corner.  A Peace Corner is a safe space where students can go to reflect and relax.  This works in conjunction with the mindfulness training that all TES students receive.

Family Math Night

In October, families worked together with their children to solve challenging problems and to better understand the Bridges math curriculum at our Family Math Night.

Miner Bees

Halloween at TES included the staff dressing as Miner Bees, the school’s mascot and the foundation for our PBIS rules – Be Respectful, Be Honest, Be Safe and Believe in Yourself!

In November, we celebrated “empathy” school-wide through the use of Second Step, the social emotional curriculum implemented here at Telluride Elementary.

               Ski PE       Professional Development

In Telluride we ring in the New Year with our Ski PE program.  Students spend one day a week for 5 weeks enjoying the amazing outdoors!!  Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the TES Staff take advantage of this time participating in professional development.
